PLC Programming

We have a wide range of experience with all types of Programmable Controllers including Modicon, Allen-Bradley, Siemens, GE and Omron just to name a few. Programming can be implemented using IEC-1131 compliant standard ladder diagrams, sequential function charts, or structured text 
 


Human-Machine Interface

Saber designs all kinds graphical interface systems ranging from simple off-the-shelf touch screens such as Allen-Bradley, TCP, Cutler-Hammer, and Modicon, to full function SCADA Systems such as Intellution, CiTect, Wonderware, and Rockwell. We also design custom HMI’s using Visual Basic or C++.


Electrical Panel/Controls Design

One of our quality control methods is to combine our software and electrical controls skills into one deliverable package. In order to meet this objective, Saber maintains a 6000 square foot UL-508A rated panel fabrication facility. By providing control panels and the software to run them, we deliver a fully tested and functional system from the HMI to the PLC to the field termination points located in the panel.

 

Onsite Startup, Commissioning and Testing

Saber supports all software and hardware systems delivered to the field. This includes simple point-to-point I/O checks to formal factory acceptance testing. Saber maintains a Class 10 electrical license so that we may be of assistance if minor electrical field modifications are required.

 

Engineering Audits and Specifications

Our tried and true method to system integration is to work with the client at the start of the project to create a Detailed Functional Specification (DFS). The document may include such information as: sequence of operations, field audits, electrical specifications, data base layout, I/O and instrumentation specifications, etc. All these efforts ensure a successful and easy startup

Hardware

Software Validation

This endeavor is primarily associated with our pharmaceutical clients, but many industries such as food producers are including this service. Regarding the major documents, we will write and perform the Operational Qualification, Installation Qualification, Software Requirements Specification, and Software Design Document.

Programming

Saber maintains a software department whose sole purpose is to design and develop custom software in the form of:

Database Design
Saber Engineering specializes in interfacing plant floor data to industrial databases such as Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle 9i. We work with the customer to determine the most compatible technologies including ADO, ODBC and OCI to achieve the required performance and flexibility. Where database configuration is required we can offer DBA services including database design and stored procedure development. We are also able to offer solutions using Microsoft's MSDE database. This limited client database can offer a more economical solution whilst still offering industrial strength and reliability.

Custom Drivers
In an industrial plant, there are typically a number of machines that provide machine data or statistical information that would prove useful to operations or maintenance personnel. This data is often under utilized as the communications interface is poorly understood or undocumented. Saber Engineering is able to work with machine vendors or, if necessary, reverse engineer the protocol to allow this information to be incorporated into an industrial strength database or an HMI. Saber has provided machine drivers that communicate using protocols as diverse as TCP/IP, UDP/IP, Serial, ARCNET and SNMP.

OPC Servers
OPC (OLE for process control) technology is now incorporated into most of the modern HMI packages. It provides an open interface to move plant floor data to and from these software applications. Saber Engineering can combine our driver development and SCADA expertise to write custom OPC Drivers where one is not already available from your HMI or PLC manufacturer.
With the ever-increasing use of Visual Basic throughout the industrial market, a custom installation can be cheaper than generic SCADA packages to design and maintain. Custom applications are not subject to the costs of licensing, annual service agreements and maintaining revision levels of these generic packages.


Motion Control

Saber engineering has a background in motion controller to PLC interfacing.  Yaskawa SMC 4000 motion controller communication to allen Bradley Compact Logix PLC via Modbus over TCP/IP, as well as RS-232 communication.  The SMC 4000 has been successfully used with Sigma Trac linear motors for laser scribing applications. 

IAI robo cylinders have been integrated utilizing PLC master controllers to integrate highly accurate part transfer.

Also, AMCI stepper motor controls and AMCI NEMA rated motors have been integrated with the compact logix platform to convey, and accurately position parts within conveying systems.
